The Govt (Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT)) on Thursday i.e.  26-07-2018 has extended the deadline for filing of Income Tax Returns for AY 2018-19 by a month i.e. to August 31, 2018, for categories of taxpayers who were to file their returns by July 31.

It means the assessee can file their income tax return (ITR) for financial year 2017-18 by August 31 without any penalty charges.

(For certain categories of taxpayers, the ‘due-date’ of filling Income Tax return for assessment year 2018-19 is 31.07.2018. Upon consideration of the matter, the Central Board of Direct Taxes, in exercise of its powers under section 119 of the Income Tax Act, 1961, hereby extends the ‘due-date’ of filling of Income Tax return, as prescribed in section 139(1) of the Act, from 31^st July, 2018 to 31^st August, 2018.)
